Abstract

Josip Mirosevic, a modern Croatian composer, appeared with his first work
at the end of the 60's, at the time of the forceful swing of avangarda in Croatian
music. Burdened with the demands of actuality, and without being able
to find himself in the frames of avangarda's technics and styles, Mirosevic
discontinues his composing to be able to continue his career path at the end
of the 70' s, more precisely 1979. when he composed the cycle for the piano
under the title "Memories". Mirosevic's music language is based on the
classic toned system, but this base only assures an indispensable order. The
author in his compositions excels and breaks all classical standards on all
levels of music structures, that include: melody, rhythm, harmony, polyphony
and form. The harmonic element of his music synthetizes in a pure, original
way, features of romantic and impressionistic harmony, while on the level of
music expression dominates romantic expression as a result of a maximum
blending of all harmonic elements in their mutual function and connection.
