Cholesterol content and quality of eggs from hens fed feed mixture supplemented with Lentinus edodes mushroom

Abstract

In attempt to decrease cholesterol content of eggs, hens were fed control diet, feed mixture supplemented with 3 % of Lentinus edodes mushroom or feed mixture supplemented with 20 % of of Lentinus edodes mycelium. During the whole experiment, following laying parameters were recorded for all the eggs: egg weight, shell firmness, index of yolk and albumen, haugh unit. Cholesterol content was measured in the representative sample weekly, during the experiment and a week after the treatment. The results show that feed supplementation with Lentinus edodes did not affect cholesterol content in eggs, egg weight and egg quality.
