Abstract
The authors present the construction of a scale which measures the perception and the satisfaction of citizens with the police. Until the end of the 1990s, only the analysis of statistical data on the work
of the police was used in Croatia, and no research was conducted on the perception of the police by citizens. When research which included the perception of citizens, started, they were based on foreign
questionnaires and models; therefore, the authors briefly present some foreign concepts and domestic scientific research based on them. The authors began to develop a new scale with the aim of adapting to the measurement of the perception of certain types of police work, which could give police managers results on the basis of which they could direct the activities of their units. The research was conducted on 170 respondents with an average age of M=41 (SD=11.98). The constructed and analyzed QPSP questionnaire consisted of 38 statements (Likert scale, 1-5), 2 questions with offered answers and 6 socio-demographic questions. The conducted analysis showed that the scale consisted of 4 factors: Satisfaction with the police, Satisfaction with the competence of police officers, Satisfaction with the accessibility of the police and Satisfaction with the contact with police officers. Reliability analysis showed satisfactory and high-reliability coefficients for all 4 subscales of the constructed scale.
