Abstract
Arteriovenous malformation (hereinafter: AVM) is a congenital vascular malformation consisting of irregular connections between an artery and a vein, which communicate via a central nidus. They can develop in any area of the body, but most often appear in the central nervous system, less often in the periphery. Peripheral AVMs present as a warm, pinkish-reddish, pulsating lesion. The choice of AVM treatment depends on the type of AVM and for this reason proper diagnosis and classification are extremely important. This paper describes the methods of diagnosing AVMs, the classification of AVMs, and the radiological interventional procedure that is carried out in order to treat it. Two cases of successful treatment of peripheral AVM with a radiological interventional procedure at the Dubrava University Hospital are also presented.
