Abstract

International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) and World Magnetic Model (WMM) global geomagnetic models were presented. The magnetic declination and its secular variation was calculated by application of expansion of spherical harmonics. The irregular and slow variation of the Earth's magnetic field long-wave component was observed for the previous century's base epochs. Estimated IGRF and WMM declination accuracy is within 1 degree, which is satisfactory for global application. Higher accuracy of the geomagnetic declination necessary for local purposes can be attained only by continuos measurements and periodic surveys of the Earth's magnetic field elements.
