Abstract

The paper describes the changes that have occured in geodesy and surveying in the past forty years in connection with the development of electronic, satellite and computer technology. There are also the examples given illustrating the changes of the names of geodetic associations, magazines, geodetic education institutions, and even of the entire profession. The current development of mathematical, physical and satellite geodesy, of practical and engineering surveying, photogrammetry and remote sensing, cartography and geoinformation technology has been analysed. There are various opinions about the future of geodesy and surveying given in the paper with the guidelines for the education of surveyors mentioned at the end.
