Abstract

The development of modem marine cartography can be best seen through the effect that single states have in this area. So far, there has been a remarkable extent of standardization achieved, namely the majority of countries have started to work on ENC according to the standard S-57. The paper presents the situation in marine cartography at the turn of the second and the third millennium in a series of noneuropean countries on the basis of introductory definitions explaining the principal terms of modern marine cartography.
