Abstract

A patient’s medication adherence is of great importance if the proven efficacy of drugs is to be reproduced in clinical practice. It has been demonstrated that there is a lack of adherence in the pharmacological treatment of osteoporosis. The factors that influence drug adherence are highly complex, with some dependent on patients, while the others are dependent on physicians and the healthcare system. To improve adherence, patients should be involved in clinical decision-making to reveal their preferences. Any adherence problem that might emerge should be recognized and addressed as soon as possible. To achieve this goal, appropriate doctor-patient relationship is essential.
