Abstract

The influence of geometric properties of the area to be portrayed (size, shape, position, spreading), as well as the map contents and usage, onto the choice of projection for small-scale maps is analyzed. The recommendations are given with respect to the projection of states, continents, oceans, hemispheres and the world maps. At the end, the critical comments is given to a more and more often distorted presentation of Croatia caused by insufficient knowledge of map designers about the choice of map projection.
