Abstract

This paper analyses the last years of the reign of the Rurikovich dynasty, with an emphasis on Ivan the Terrible as one of the rulers, who put his dynasty, along with the state, to the brink of ruin due to his impetuous actions. Various attempts of usurping the power occured as a result of the decay of the Rurikovich dynasty. The first attempt was executed by Boris Godounov, the second one by false descendants of Ivan the IV and the third one by boyars. Along with the internal problems, the external problems came from Sweden and Poland which tried to come to the posession of the Russian territory and to impose their own ruler in Russia. All the hardships that occured, which can be called ‘’the age of turmoil’’, have lead Russia to the brink of endurance.
