Abstract

This paper investigates the relation between the two definition of landscape entropy: The one – according to general thermodynamic principles on the base of the complete analogy between relief altitude in a landscape and temperature in an isobaric system, the other – based on the Boltzmann or Shannon respectively probability formula (Theory of Information), calculating the statistical probability of the presence of various relief heights. Both entropy definition describes the landscape as a system in evolution, whose entropy increases. The high mountain as the "young" areas with high activity has a lower entropy that the plain "old-age" region with less activity.
