Abstract

In Croatia, nobody has yet systematically researched the level of ecological consciousness in connection to harmful effect of painting materials, ecological conditions of artists work, and there are no data bases or special programs of protection of artists at work or protection measures of health and environment. This work brings examples which testify about many injuries, illnesses, and even death cases which the author collected through mixed methodological approach through many years of continuing monitoring of individual cases as a lecturer at the Academy of fine arts. The research is focused on ecological problems of professional artists who are part of the educational process with the emphasis on the responsibility and obligations that they have towards the students regarding safety measures at work. Based on the accumulated data the author concludes in this work that the care for health and safety of artists, regarding the risk they are exposed to, needs to be formalized and in this light pleads with the sociologists to become more involved in the shaping of health policies in this field.
