Abstract
This paper provides a brief overview of the origins and development of the Photograph Collection, one of the most prominent collections of the Croatian School Museum. Its origins are associated with the initial activities of the Croatian Educational & Literary Assembly (1871), thirty years before the Museum was established. This is confirmed by records within archival materials, mostly donated. The first permanent exhibition exhibited photographs that are still kept as part of the Collection, preventively protected. The photographs were authored by famous persons of the then new medium: Ivan Standl, Franjo Pommer, Rudolf Mosinger, etc. The Collection presently comprises approximately 14 000 photographs, predominantly of school buildings, interiors, school events, teachers and students.
