Abstract

The cross section for elastic electron-deuteron scattering was measured in Jefferson Lab experiment 91-026. The deuteron elastic structure functions A(Q2 ) and B(Q2 ) have been extracted from the data. The final results for the “electric” structure function, A(Q2 ), in the range of 0.7 ≤ Q2 ≤ 6.0 (GeV/c)2 , are presented. Preliminary results for the “magnetic” structure function, B(Q2 ), are presented in the range of 0.7 ≤ Q2 ≤ 1.35 (GeV/c)2 . These data are compared to the theoretical predictions of both meson-nucleon and quark-gluon based models.
