Abstract

After a decade of crisis in which deliveries and new ship orders were reduced, the Croatian shipbuilding has been recovering and it takes a very important role in the Croatian economy. Conditions on world market are not favourable for our shipyards because of the trend of price reduction in segments towards which the ship production is oriented in Croatia. Beside review of world market of shipbuilding and characteristics of Croatian ship production, the authoress analyzes factors which influence competitiveness of shipbuilding. Based on her research the authoress sets apart low level of average price per labour hour and quality of ships as factors which are favourable for competitiveness, while the restricting factors are ship price, too big share of material costs in cost price, low level of effective labour hours, inadequate labour productivity, big role of state in shipbuilding financing and inadequate investment in technological modernization.
