Abstract
This paper gives an insight into the conceptualization of social entrepreneurship and the challenges of the field development. In the first part of paper we look upon the meanings and definitions of the term social entrepreneur and social entrepreneurship. The second chapter pertains to the differences between the concepts of social entrepreneurship in the U.S. and Europe. Conceptual differences and different paths of emergence of social enterprises defined the approach to the area and had strong implications for its further development. Further on we discuss the challenges that social entrepreneurship is facing. As a field that is still emerging and trying to establish itself, social entrepreneurship has to resolve some of the inherent contradictions within the concept and has to face the challenges that limit it in the stages of construction, financing, organization, scaling and evaluation. The last part is conclusion with interactively rethinking of the current situation, development opportunities and obstacles that arise in the field of social entrepreneurship.
