Abstract

Outdoor lighting has become a significant integral part of our society. However, as a side effect of outdoor lighting, light pollution has appeared. This defect can be significantly decreased if lighting is used only for what really needs to be illuminated and at the time necessary, using strictly determined light intensity. This paper considers three elements of light pollution, i.e. increase of sky brilliance, disturbance light and flashing. Also, some recommendations are given on how to decrease or remove negative effects of each element when designing and realizing outdoor lighting.
