Abstract

Clinical practice has confirmed the rule that antipsychotic therapy in the eldery should be administered in lower doses and then increased slowly and gradually. It is also necessary to allow enough time for the clinical effect to manifest itself so that the patient’s psychological condition can improve. Furthermore, one must consider the effect of interaction with other groups of drugs in order to achieve adequate therapy results and avoid side effects as a result of drug interactions. In daily clinical practice, antipsychotic use in elderly patients has shown good effectiveness and enabled the inclusion of patients in other types of treatment such as sociotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic therapy.
