Abstract

Breast cancer is a serious public health problem worldwide, especially in developed countries.
It is the most common cancer in women in Croatia, such as in Međimurje. Breast cancer in
Međimurje affected between 40 and 50 women,and between 16 and 20 women died per year.
National program of early detection detection of breast cancer was adopted at the 173. session
of the Croatian Government on 29.06.2006. , and complies with the guidelines of the National
Strategy for prevention and early detection of cancer, which are part of the Strategy for the
Development of Health. Screening mammography is used as a method of early detection of
breast cancer as a purpose of prevention or detection of breast cancer in early stage which
improves the chances of healing and survival. These article presented guidelines of the
national program for early detection of breast cancer and the results of early implementation
of the National program in Međimurje.
