Abstract

The systematic literature review “Radiation protection in MSCT diagnostics” analyses the accepted and established methods, while emphasizing modern methods of radiation protection in the field of Multi-Slice Computed Tomography (MSCT).
The aim of the article is to familiarize the reader with: the basic terms related to radiation protection; the biological impact of ionizing radiation delivered to the human body during MSCT examination and measurement of its levels; the parameters that affect the reduction (or due to improper use, increase) of the radiation dose, and the ways in which proper adaptation of these parameters can significantly influence the radiation exposure of the patient during the MSCT examination; and summarize the most important findings regarding the optimization of radiation protection and the various techniques for achieving it.
This article can serve as a reminder of the basic concepts and the importance of conscientious implementation of radiation protection measures in everyday practice for healthcare workers who participate in the implementation of MSCT diagnostic procedures.
