Abstract

The paper examines the influence of the innovation culture on the telecommunications companies’ innovation outcomes. The significance of the open innovation model analysed the effect of three innovation culture factors: (i) strategic, and (ii) operational attitude towards open innovation and (iii) externalization of intellectual property rights, on innovation outcomes, namely on (iv) product or process improvements and (v) cost reduction. Primary empirical research was conducted through an online questionnaire in the period from April to September 2014 on Australian telecommunications companies, where data was collected from 88 respondents. The results of the evaluation of the multiple linear regression model show that the strategic culture of open innovations affects the open innovation model, and products and processes improvements, while no indicator has a statistically significant effect on the production cost reduction. Moreover, the model is significant only for companies that have more than 20% of export revenue in total revenue. Results imply that open innovation model is not caused by firms’ strategic actions, but with individual efforts of individuals, and as such does not have statistically significant effect on firms’ innovative outcomes. The implications of this analysis are given in the conclusion of the paper.
