Abstract
Road safety is an important research area because the consequences of traffic insecurity are a significant safety and public health problem. Traffic safety depends on a person's active role in road traffic, his behavior and actions that he does or does not do.
Accordingly, the main goal of this research was to determine the frequency of violations of traffic regulations related to drivers and to investigate the relationship between certain sociodemographic characteristics of drivers, as well as driving experience with violations of certain traffic rules.
Based on data obtained in a survey of 2072 respondents, processed by descriptive statistical analysis, correlation and canonical correlation analysis, it was determined that drivers more often violate certain traffic regulations, especially speeding, failure to maintain safety distances and illegal use of mobile phones while driving. It was also confirmed that age, gender, employment, level of monthly income, education and driving experience are important for predicting traffic violations by drivers.
When it comes to the frequency of traffic violations, this research is important for understanding the differences between certain categories (groups) of drivers. Furthermore, in order to gain a better insight into the factors that contribute to differences between drivers, in addition to sociodemographic variables and driving experience, variables that define other characteristics of drivers should be included in the processing, primarily personality traits, attitudes about traffic safety and risk perception in traffic.
