Abstract

The scientific paper "Attitudes of electric vehicle owners on the safety aspects of EV charging stations" is focused on the importance of electric vehicle charging stations. The methods of charging electric vehicles and the characteristics of each of these methods are described through the categorization of charging described by ICE and SAE standards. In addition to the aforementioned charging methods, the division of the associated connections used for existing charging stations for electric vehicles is also shown. The costs that may occur during charging are briefly described and some charging stations used for charging at home or in public places are presented. Additionally, the existing risk factors that can lead to fires on the electric vehicle charging station are described. Scientific publications indicate that extinguishing a fire on an electric vehicle may take hours. Lithium-ion batteries are in question because excessive charging and high temperatures represent a key risk factor. In addition to the lithium-ion battery, other risk factors such as the charging process (inadequate and ineffective charging) and traffic accidents are briefly mentioned. The results of the survey showed that a high percentage of respondents live in urban areas. The research results showed that the majority of respondents own only one electric vehicle in their household, but that they want to use their own and EU funds to buy an electric vehicle. They believe that the prices of charging electric vehicles in Croatia are higher than in the rest of Europe and that charging stations for electric vehicles must be located and accessible in cities, tourist destinations, and gas stations. Their biggest concern is the uncertainty of charging, long duration, and long distances between EV charging stations.
