Abstract

In spite of electric energy market development the calculation of production/consumption costs of synchronous generator reactive power and network compensation equipment is not defined in detail and the employment of market mechanism for reactive power in most of the countries is at the very beginning. The reason for that is low economic influence of reactive power flows optimization. Because of its influence on active power transmission possibilities, connection to voltage values in the system and to voltage stability of the electric power system, reactive power deserves attention and serious concern in order to be able to define its price on the market. In the article the problems of reactive power production/consumption cost determination are described and mechanisms to organize reactive power market are given. A review on existing reactive power market models in the world is also given.
