Abstract

The health team represents a form of work in the field of health care that enables the cooperation of several different experts aimed at achieving a common goal. Team leaders participate daily in the supervision, education, and counseling of employees, improving the level of quality, standards, and safety of health care following the protocols of the medical profession, health institutions, and safety standards, lifelong education programs, and performing administrative tasks. The research aimed to examine the current attitudes of nurses and technicians about the importance of certain desirable qualities in the position of team leader in nursing, depending on the field of medical activity and workplace. The survey was conducted at the end of 2021 and includes 791 respondents who are nurses and technicians employed in Croatia. As the most desirable qualities in the position of team leader in the field of palliative care, health centers, and related health institutions, respondents list professionalism, fairness, team player, responsibility towards others and cooperation. In the position of leader in the field of emergency medicine, unified emergency hospital reception, and related healthcare institutions, as the most important, they list professionalism, team player, responsibility towards others, practical knowledge, and motivating others.
