Abstract
The aim of this research was to determine the essential oil composition and quality of five chamomile samples, one of which was an organic cultivation sample, while the other samples were from conventional cultivation from Virovitica-Podravina County. Dried chamomile flower heads were used for physico-chemical analyses. Chamomile samples were taken from early and late harvest during the mjonth of May 2022. Dried chamomile flower heads were used for physico-chemical analyses. Apigenin-7-glucoside was determined by HPLC and essential oil composition using GCMS. The content of apigenin-7-glucoside ranged from 0.49% to 0.85%. A total of 71 compounds were identified in chamomile essential oil. The main compounds of the essential oil were (E,E)-α-farnesene ranging from 28.6% to 10.8%, followed by bisabolol oxide B ranging from 28.1% to 11.7%, and then (E )-β-farnesene ranging from 14.4% to 10.9%. In addition, numerous other compounds were detected that contribute to the rich chemical profile of this essential oil and are an important indicator of the quality and value of the raw material itself.
