Abstract
Expounding the main features of the postmodern thought based on the standpoints of Jacques Derride and Jean-François Lyotard, the article shows the fundamental challenges that that thinking puts before theological pondering. After giving a brief outline of what shapes the main features of the concept of the postmodern age, the paper focuses on the question of the relationship of postmodern thought to the question of God and the way in which theology tries to answer those considerations. Necessarily connected to the problems of speculating about God is the question of postmodern thinking and the challenge it puts before theology when the matters of man and his world are discussed within the coordinates of the relationship between the «individual» and the »other«, but as within the speculation on the possibility of creating a more righteous world and the reconciliation of the question of relativism with the demand for universality.
