Abstract

Haiku poetry and the Shinrin-yoku method, known as “forest bathing”, are two aspects of Japanese culture that emphasize the connection between humans and nature. Haiku poetry, with its simple structure and profound imagery of nature, reflects Japanese society’s aesthetic and philosophical values. On the other hand, the method Shinrin-yoku represents the practical application of this philosophy, promoting physical and mental health through conscious immersion in the natural environment. This paper explores the synergy between haiku poetry and the Shinrin-yoku method, highlighting their shared foundational principles and benefits for the human psyche. From the gathered and analyzed materials, it can be concluded that Haiku poetry and Shinrin-yoku share a common focus on mindful presence and deep connection with nature. While haiku uses words to create mental images that evoke peace and contemplation, Shinrin-yoku uses the actual environment to achieve similar effects. Both approaches help reduce stress, promote inner peace, and improve quality of life.
