Abstract

: A study has been made of the broadening of the Iine 5876 Å of neutral helium in the shock wave plasma in helium-hydrogen gas mixture. The electron density of the plasma was found from the broadening of Hβ line, while the temperature was determined from the relative intensities of neutral helium Iines. Temperatures were in the range 3700 - 4900 °K, and electron densities varied from 2.4 to 3.5 · 1016 cm-3. The Fabry-Perot-axicon technique was used to determine the profile of Hc I 5876 A line. The broadening of this Iine was found to increase Iinearly with the electron concentration and is compared within 5 % with the theory.
