Abstract

In this paper the author describes the appointment, role and tasks of the Officer for personal data protection that are prescribed by the General Data Protection Regulation and the Act on the Protection of Natural Persons with Regard to the Processing and Exchange of Personal Data for the Purpose of Prevention, Research, Detection or Prosecution of Criminal Offenses or Execution of Criminal Sanctions. The Minister's Decision (2019) specifically describes the appointment of the Personal Data Protection Officer in the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia, as well as his/her role and tasks aimed at protecting personal data processed in the records/collections of the Ministry of the Interior as a data controller. The purpose of performing his/her tasks, among other things, is to raise the awareness of the employees of the Ministry of the Interior withto the importance of protecting the personal data they process while performing their duties, which contributes to the processing of personal data in a legal manner and improves the work of this Ministry and the police as a whole.
