Abstract

This paper gives an overview of the beginnings and activities of the Teacher-Training School in Šibenik after it was founded by a ministerial decision on July 15, 1922, with its seat in Šibenik. After the loss of Zadar with the signing of the Treaty of Rapallo (1920), Šibenik attempted to position itself as the centre of Northern Dalmatia. The research focuses on the organizational issues that the Teacher-Training School faced upon its establishment after the war, at a time when it was difficult to raise the financial means necessary for the continuation of its activities. Furthermore, the paper analyses the changes in number and structure of students according to gender during the first decade of the Teacher-Training School in Šibenik, as well as the social status of the students according to their parents' occupations. The paper cites the reasons for the closing and reopening of the Teacher-Training School in Šibenik and indicates the reactions of the social and political public.
