Abstract

During archaeological excavations of the city walls south of
the cemeterial basilica at Kapljuč in Salona in 2021, a fragment
of a stele was discovered. The stele was erected during the
Late Principate period in this part of the so-called Northern
necropolis by Aurelius Candidianus. He likely commemorated his
wife, whose name has not been preserved. Candidianus served
as a strator in the governor’s officium in Salona. Although he did
not specify his unit affiliation, it can be assumed to have been
one of the five auxiliary units stationed in Dalmatia at that time.
