Abstract

Radicalization and violent extremism are observed as phenomena that lead to violence in order
to achieve radical ideological, religious and/or political positions. Hence we cannot ignore the fact
that today, more than ever, radicalization turns into violent extremism, and then into terrorism,
which becomes the most powerful weapon against civilians and innocent people. In this paper we
analyse the risks of radicalization and violent extremism; we emphasize the early recognition of
push and pull factors that lead to radicalization and violent extremism, and we analyse individual
strategies and studies on these phenomena, highlight the roles of individual actors in the prevention
of radicalization and violent extremism in the creation of preventive rings, a targeted preventive
approach and interventions that combine traditional and modern measures. Radicalization and
violent extremism should be taken seriously, since they are processes that have developed channels
for many years and find new ways to recruit individuals and groups to harm others who have
different views and ideologies. Therefore, in the conclusion of the paper, the need for an early identification
of risks and the duty and responsibility of the state to develop resilience and provide safety
to the population is emphasized.
