Abstract
Mycorrhizal symbiosis is a highly developed, mutually beneficial relationship between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and most vascular plants. Most terrestrial plants are capable of associating with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, and these fungi directly benefit the growth and development of the host plant. In addition, their function ranges from stress reduction to bioremediation in soils contaminated with heavy metals. They can also improve protection against drought, salinity and high temperatures. Proper management of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi has the potential to improve the profitability and sustainability of agricultural systems. This expert paper article presents the role and importance of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in increasing resilience to abiotic stress
