Abstract

The participation of the Republic of Croatia in peacekeeping missions and operations is an important component of the foreign, security and defence policy of the Republic of Croatia. The objective of this paper is to identify legal criteria that need to be fulfilled for the deployment and participation of police officers in peacekeeping missions. The paper presents the procedure for adopting a decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia on the participation of police officers in a specific mission, the implementation of internal vacancy announcements for selecting candidates for peacekeeping missions, as well as the legal aspects of deployment and participation of police officers in peacekeeping missions. In conclusion, solutions will be proposed to improve the existing state of play in accordance with the current needs and conditions for the participation of police officers in civilian missions of the European Union.
