Abstract

The authors analyse concepts and problems in research of the work-family interface, i.e. the interrelation of the family and work stress and strain and the influence of the work-family conflict on work and life satisfaction and the health of the individual. A review of research results is also given and the change of stress put on various components of the work-family interface is analysed, i.e. the influence of woman's paid work on the woman herself, her husband, family, motherhood and parenthood, the spillover of job stress on the family and family stress on job satisfaction. Based on research results, several measures are proposed which could possibly lessen the intensity of the work-family conflict. In addition, some new views of these problems are offered in connection with modern trends in restructuring global and national economies. Several measures that would prevent the negative consequences of a continuously changing and restructuring economy, such as unemployment and work insecurity, are offered.
