Abstract

Sexual dysfunction is a life-long disorder or could be acquired during menopause. It affects approximately 40% of women. It usually presents as desire-arousal problem. Declining of sexual interest correlates with decline of estrogen but it is not the only factor considered, as it is a multifactorial condition. Therefore psychological and other medical issues should be addressed. Treatment should be started by optimizing estrogen therapy. Available testosterone does not decline over the menopausal transition. A trial of testosterone therapy may be appropriate for some women whose symptoms do not improve on estrogen-containing hormonal replacement therapy.
