Abstract

At the beginning, the paper defines the term carol (koleda) and indicates its multiplicity of meaning and outlines its performance context. It is followed by a motivic analysis of carols from the Pelješac peninsula. The analysis shows that mythical and Christian motifs appear in carols, along with motifs from flora and fauna. From the analysed carols, it is evident that their motive-thematic world adapts to a certain extent to their addressees and reflects their life reality.
