Abstract

The Guest Performances Committee was established in 1953 as part of the Council for Education and Culture of the People’s Committee of the City Municipality of Slavonski Brod. The Committee organized guest performances of professional musical and theatrical artists and ensembles which significantly enriched the city’s musical and cultural offerings. Musician and pedagogue Franjo Pokaz served as both president and later secretary of the Committee. Through his efforts cooperation was established with numerous artists and theatrical companies from Croatia and the other republics of the former Yugoslavia. This work especially highlighted two concert visits by the Zagreb Soloists. Although financial difficulties occasionally complicated its activities, the Committee consistently prioritized maintaining a high-quality programme.
