Abstract
In no part of the Evangile of Jesus Christ does he refer to himself as a priest. This is understandable given that he did not descend from Levi’s family; only Levi's descendants were able to be priests in the economy of the Old Testament. In addition, Jesus wanted to establish an entirely new priesthood. He did indeed establish this new priesthood, and as the Good Shepherd. The Book of Hebrews clearly shows that Jesus was a true priest, but his priesthood was one »after the order of Melchisedec«. It is not inheritable, but is transcendental and eternal. In fact, all priests from the New Testament took part in this priesthood.
