Abstract

The article deals with biomedical and bioethical discussion of the beginning of individual human life based on the neologisms brain birth and brain life. Following a synthetic-analytic approach in the first part of the article, some important sketches of various theories are distinguished, which individual authors participating in the discussion frame, according to analogy or symmetrical principles, in relation to the existing definition of »brain death« and accompanying criteria. The second part of the article, with a critical-evaluative approach, is a brief theoretical sketch of the assumptions which clearly show the interpretative-methodological and scientific groundlessness of both theoretical and concrete applications of symmetry between »brain life« and »brain death«.
