Abstract

The existing engineering design theories, based on mathematical decomposition formulations, do not sufficiently explain the inductive complexity of design processes. The explanations must therefore be sought in the analogy with the modern production theory which encompasses a wider production shaping framework. The author presents the interaction among the production transformation concept, flow concept and value concept, and depicts development of design methods from the past times to the present day.
