Abstract

This work aims to analyze an inventory system controlled by an $(R,s, S)$ policy, whose stored product is described by a random continuous variable. We first propose to model the state of the considered system using a non-homogeneous discrete Markov chain (DMC) defined at inspection dates, without any restriction on the nature (Markovian or non-Markovian) of the processes governing the system. In addition, the special case where the processes governing the system are Markovian is examined. The resulting model simplifies to a homogeneous DMC, allowing for a more tractable numerical analysis. Then, an economic model associated with such systems was derived. Finally, our results were illustrated with numerical examples.
