Abstract

Contemporary Catholic theology includes in its horizon as a certain
novelty the urgent problem of human relationship With its natural environment.
The result of the encounter oftheology with the problems
of ecology is sacral ecology itself. Sacral ecology emphasizes the
importance of a thisworldly dimension of human life, i.e. the importance
of its natural conditions. Sacral ecology also warns us that
God entrusted man with nature to use it for his survival and well-
-being, and not for unlimited technological progress, that is, to use
it with measure and reasonably instead of using it self-willfully and
without control. It could have disastrous consequences for humankind
if it doesn't become aware of it on time. That is why a new ecological
ethic and culture based on proper ecological education is
needed, especially in postsocialist countries.
