Abstract

The purpose of this work is to indicate the processes of
privatization of housing in developed countries as well as in former
soclallst countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Therefore, the
author analyses the latest literature and recent research findings.
The processes of privatization of housing in developed countries
are part of a bigger project of dismantling the welfare state and
have been going on since the mid seventies. In the text, the basic
strategies of privatization of housing are analysed, as well as their
effects. Privatization of housing in former socialist countries of
Central and Eastern Europe demonstrates a mere attempt in
establishing a housing poicy. In other words, an essentially
different process in comparison with developed countries is under
way. Due to the short duration of these processes, it is still not
possible to give reliable assessments about them. Privatization of
housing in Croatia has been essentially limited and conditioned
by the current war.
