Abstract

In the paper the significance of the systems theory for the analysis
of social systems is discussed. It is demonstrated that despite the
crisis of wholistic viewpoints in the period marked by the rule of
postmodernism, the systems theory can be very important for the
research of postsocialist orders, but also traditional capitalist
orders. Namely, from the basic opposition in any type of system
- the one between differentiation and integration - an organic
need of the social system for stability or a certain degree of social
order is derived. The author demonstrates numerous sources that
influence the establishment of the systems theory and indicates
that its application is equally present within the framework of
natural as well as social sciences. Special attention is given to the
thought of two great theoreticians - Parsons and Luhmann, who
appear as the leading figures of the systemic mode of thought
within social sciences.
