Abstract

Value orientations are examined in the context of modernization and
transition of Croatian society. The research refers also to the religious shaping of value attitudes that are being structured into a
dominant value paradigm. As to their importance in relation to the
social integration, they have characteristics of socio-anthropological
and cultural capacities of the highest rank. Value attitudes with a
strongly expressed emotional-cognitive dimension and social-political
determination include strong patriarchal, authoritarian, ethnocentric,
national and traditional features. They are a discriminative criterion
in determining the traditional or modern field of value priorities. There are differences in accepting the traditional and modern values
in relation to religiosity and non-religiosity of a respondent. Although
the both groups of the respondents accept the both types of values,
so there is an interference of these two value fields, the religious
ones participate considerably more giving more priority to traditional
values white the non-religious to a more modern value framework. In accepting the traditional and modern values the respondents also
differ when the frequency of participating in religious practice is in
question. The results of the analysis of the variance of religious practice and the value orientations structured in factors, showed a
connection between the traditional value orientations and more frequent participation in religious practice, as well as a complete
absence of such a practice with those respondents that accept more
modern (liberal) value orientations. Value orientations are a process
and they are latent by their nature, so the results of the research
should be examined in the context of wider processes of modernization.
