Successfully solving mathematical problems – examining the logico-mathematical model

Abstract
This work examined some hypotheses of the mathematical-logical model of problem solving by children. Mathematical problem tasks of addition and subtraction can be divided into three types (combine, change and compare), with three subtypes existing within each type. The mathematical-logical model predicts different success rates in children on various tast subtypes. The model predicts the most success in solving two tasks each of change and comparison, named Ch1, Ch2 and Co1, Co2, somewhat less success on Ch3, Ch4 and Co3, Co4 with least success on tasks Ch5, Ch6 and Co5, Co6. According to this model, the most frequent mistake made in solving the task, will be a "number from the question", i.e., the children will use a number from the question as a final solution.
