The divided visual field investigations of cerebral laterality: Variables that influence the prelexical processes in verbal tasks

Meri Tadinac Babić

Abstract

Although the divided visual field (DVF) technique is frequently used to investigate asymmetric processing in the left and right cerebral hemispheres, the role of several input and task factors which can influence the observed lateral effects has usually been neglected. Using Chiarello's (1988) model of lexical processes as the theoretical framework, the present article discusses the role of several factors – those primarily affecting the prelexical processes and considers implications for the studies of visual laterality using verbal material.
