Irena Čorko
Abstract
This study examined the possibility of enhancing creativity following the requirement to improve the creativity of one's own past performance. Female psychology students (N=25), randomly divided into control and experimental groups, wrote a poem in a given format. After that, participants in the experimental group were asked to write a poem that would be more creative than the first one, while participants in the control group wrote another poem without any specific instruction. Creativity was assessed by consensual assessment technique. Poems written by participants of the experimental group after the requirement to enhance the creativity were judged as significantly more creative than those of the control group participants. These poems were also assessed more creative compared to the first poems written by the participants in the experimental group. Objective measure of originality did not show such differences. Obtained results are discussed according to the goal setting theory.
